As an educator, my goal is to create a learning environment where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered. I believe music is more than just a skill. It’s a pathway to self-discovery, connection, and growth. In my classroom, I don’t just teach music; I teach empathy, resilience, collaboration, and confidence.
I became a teacher because I was deeply inspired by those who taught me. My former teachers helped shape who I am, and without their influence, I wouldn’t be the person or musician I am today. I see it as my responsibility to carry that legacy forward. To recognize the best in each student and help guide them to realize their full potential, as my teachers did for me.
Whether in general music or an ensemble, I strive to meet students where they are and support them in becoming the best they can be, both musically and personally. I work to ensure that every student feels welcome, safe, and free to make mistakes, because true learning and creativity thrive in a supportive community. In its roots, music is about community and connection. Without those two things music becomes meaningless and dull. The music classroom is the same way. To make meaningful music with your students, you need to create a space where vulnerability and mistakes are welcome. Without this the music classroom is not a supportive community.
Inclusivity is also central to this idea. Personally, I am committed to creating a space where everyone belongs, regardless of background, identity, or experience. Music has the power to unite and uplift, and I believe every student deserves access to that power.
At the heart of my teaching is the belief that music education helps all students grow not just as musicians, but as people. That is why I teach.
